Okay, that may be a bit dramatic, but I just don't see the point, and it's not because I am single, since clearly I'm not....I don't really know where it comes from either.
ANYWAY, I guess you can compare me to Scrooge because in the end, I was quite the v-day cheerleader, and here's why!
A few months back, my brother invited me to his 4th grade class to help with their Valentine's day party! I was stoked, especially since I've been wanting to do something with his class for SO long, but somehow never end up being able to! SO I was lucky enough to be in charge of the cookie decorating table!
His class is so sweet! Quite a few of his students are deaf, as he is a teacher at the school for the deaf and blind, but that doesn't mean they don't know how to get down! This was the most rowdy bunch of kids I've ever seen! They all had so much energy, I don't know how my brother does it, but he is a GREAT teacher and they all love and respect him so much!
So we decorated cookies, played games, and decorated little v-day card mail boxes, which I thought was so neat! When I was a kid, we had to do that at home, which some of these kids did, but it was fun to see what they could come up with in such a short amount of time.
I have a confession, word got out that my last name was NOT the same as Danny's (Mr. Hilder), so everyone was eager to ask me what mine was. I may have told them I am related to Kobe Bryant, but hey, it's all in good fun. The best part is, not a single one of them doubted me! Well, almost. One boy asked Danny to confirm, or deny....and he definitely CONFIRMED! I was a little disappointed at how bummed some of them were, as they are die hard Jazz fans! So basically, if I ever go back this year, I'll have to bring in a high quality photoshopped image of me and my "famous" cousin ;)
After the party at the good ol' elementary school, I went home to meet Jon and head to school. Right before we left, we decided we would just turn in our homework and go out for a night on the town! Sounds so rebellious, but this was the first day we've ever missed, so that's how we justified it! We went to dinner and saw 'Just Go With It', which I thought was pretty funny, but Jon swears is the best Adam Sandler movie since '50 First Dates', which I also wasn't waaaay stoked about, but tomato, tomato.
Moral of the story:
Any excuse to hang out with a bunch of fun kids and have a night on the town with your husband is a good one! Still don't love Valentine's Day, but I will thank St Valentine for giving me yet another excuse to snuggle up with the hubs while eating fatty carb-loaded foods and watching a movie :)
